Proffering an alternative in terms of literary historiography; this book supports a methodological approach that considers literary narratives which occur in the margins of dominant discourses, and indeed promote non-discursivity, as the main writers of Persian modernist fiction. It is an essential resource for scholars and researchers interested in Persian and comparative literature, as well as Middle Eastern Studies more broadly.

About the Author

Mohammad Mehdi Khorrami is Professor of Persian language and literature at New York University. His research is focused on the literary characteristics of contemporary Persian fiction and classical Persian poetry. He has authored, translated and co-edited numerous books and articles. Among his book-length publications are Modern Reflections of Classical Traditions in Persian Fiction, and Sohrab’s Wars: Counter Discourses of Contemporary Persian Fiction, which is a translated and edited collection of short stories; the co-edited and co-translated A Feast in the Mirror: A Collections of Short Stories by Iranian Women. He is the founder of The Association for the Study of Persian Literature (www.persian-literature.org)

About the Author
John Gordon Davis was born in Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, and educated in South Africa. He earned a BA in Political Science, paying his way through university by working as a deckhand on British merchant ships and on the Dutch whaling fleet at the Antarctic. He went on to take an LL.B. degree whilst serving as a judge�s clerk in Rhodesia. Called to the Bar, he was appointed an assistant public prosecutor in the Magistrate�s Courts during the troubled years leading up to Rhodesia�s Unilateral Declaration of Independence, before becoming Crown Counsel in the Attorney General�s Chambers. He was later appointed to the same position in Hong Kong. He quit this post to become a full-time writer when his first book, "Hold My Hand I�m Dying" became an instant best-seller. Other bestselling novels followed. A veteran seaman; he and his Australian born wife, Rosemary, sailed round most of the world in a succession of yachts. Upon retirement, they travelled widely and from their home in a lovely old Spanish farmhouse in Andalucia, Spain, he also ran highly successful writing courses for both aspiring and published authors. John Gordon Davis sadly died in 2014 leaving behind a rich literary heritage, including several unpublished novels he had worked on even as he supposedly slowed the pace.

This should be the first anatomy required read

I am a registered nurse who specializes in CranioSacral Therapy. I was in great need to refresh my A&P knowledge and was looking for a book that had a holistic/alternative view of the body. This was the only book I could find through a Google search. At the time Holistic Anatomy was on the Amazon site but it had no copies(no place to click "add to cart"). So I bought my copy directly from Pip Waller. Thank You again Pip!
Fantastic modern approach to teaching anatomy and physiology. I am a more "right brain" leaner and this book has bridged synapses in my brain that in the past met a brick wall when it came to studying the human body and its parts.
Bravo to Pip for creating an enjoyable and up to date global understanding of the body...(body, mind, spirit connection).

Finally a user-friendly anatomy book! I am no scientist and all the anatomy textbooks I've looked at over the years have been really offputting and intimidating. Pip Waller's book is clearly set out and presents Western anatomy/physiology in a conventional order whilst querying many of the scientific assumptions that have shaped the discipline. It's packed with juicy and provoking insights and is written in a very readable way with clear and well-labelled illustrations. Highly recommended for the lay reader!

Fantastic Review

This book is fantastic; I have read it like a novel devoured from front to back. I love Pip Waller's style of writing keeping it interesting and applicable all the way through.

Her depth of knowledge on the human body, health and spirit clearly comes across -what a total pleasure.

I am using it as a text for my students and I am sure many will learn and grow from reading this wonderful book.

The book covers a lot of bases for the newbie. Scott uses his project manager experience to lay out a logical, rationale approach to this business.

The book contains a lot of useful advice based on Scott's experience running a business and research on the business. Examples include how to get started, what to expect, realistic profit calculations, reviews and recommendations of vending machines, where to purchase them, the pros and cons of candy choices, where to purchase candy, etc.

He thinks like a business person and provides the reader with his experiences from the perspective of his successful business.

The book is an excellent read and is highly recommended to anyone thinking of getting into the business or curious about the candy vending machine business.

I thoroughly enjoy this book. Each time I pick it up, I get something new from it. I mostly love that It is written in layman's terms so anyone can understand it from start to finish. In my opinion, it covers all areas from A to Z. It informs of all positives and even of the negatives. The author is highly knowledgeable about the content and has an excellent demeanor as well. It lists all the nuts and bolts of going into this from novice to expert levels. He gives excellent advice on business in other areas as well. I highly recommend this book-even if you are only curious about becoming a Confectioner; everyone can grasp something from this book!

This publication extends the now classic system of human cytogenetic nomenclature prepared by an expert committee and published in collaboration with ‘Cytogenetic and Genome Research’ since 1963. Revised and finalized by the ISCN Committee and its advisors at a meeting in Seattle, Wash., in April 2012, the ISCN 2013 updates, revises and incorporates all previous human cytogenetic nomenclature recommendations into one systematically organized publication that supersedes all previous ISCN recommendations. There are several new features in ISCN 2013:

• an update of the microarray nomenclature, many more illustrative examples of uses of nomenclature in all sections
• some definitions including chromothripsis and duplication
• a new chapter for nomenclature that can be used for any region-specific assay.

The ISCN 2013 is an indispensable reference volume for human cytogeneticists, technicians and students for the interpretation and communication of human cytogenetic nomenclature.

Beautifully illustrated overview of quantum physics

I bought this book just over one year ago and I refer to it occasionally for the thrill of understanding quantum physics from a laymans nonmathematical viewpoint. There is no better book on the history of this branch of physics -- multiple sidebar illustrations and photos add to the "people" dimension of physics. The reader rides this thrill too and gets insight into Nobel winners and the contraptions used in experimental physics. The "New" in the title refers to an updated version of the book, providing confidence to the reader that the quality of the first book warranted an update by the publisher. This book should supplement any math based quantum physics course simply because the latter don't profile scientists as real people or have enough historical context. For nonphysicists, this is a great read, worthy of a long lasting presence on the family bookshelf.

A very nice clearly organized book, well illustrated with photographs, graphs and diagrams, gently introducing the reader to the quirks of quantum physics. Even if you have read other similar books "Quantum Universe" will make an excellent addition to your library.

Very cranial subject matter......

This book provides an overview of quantum physics. It starts with wave - particle duality and moves through the structure of the atom to the large scale structure of the Universe. Some of the material really makes the reader think hard so be prepared for some hard thinking! The book does warn the reader of this in places however. It also covers the applications of quantum physics to practical issues such as electron micropscopes and the transistor. The explanation of the periodic table of the elements was most illuminating. It also provides many little vignettes of key people such as Dirac, Heisenberg, Planck, etc. all of which are very interesting indeed. An excellent read!

About the Author
Jeffrey A. Kottler, Ph.D., is Professor in the Counseling Department at California State University, Fullerton, and one of the foremost authorities and prolific writers in the fields of counseling, psychology, and education. He is the best-selling author of more than 80 nonfiction books that deal with a wide range of subjects including personal development, group leadership, professional development of psychotherapists and teachers, social justice, true crime, and a variety of contemporary issues related to helping and healing, truth and lies, creativity, transformative travel, and stress management. In addition to his private practice, Jeffrey has worked as a teacher, counselor, and therapist in preschool, middle school, mental health center, crisis center, university, and community college settings. He has served as a Fulbright Scholar and Senior Lecturer in Peru and Iceland, teaching counseling theory and practice. He has also served as a visiting professor in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Nepal, and other countries. In addition, Jeffrey is President of Empower Nepali Girls, a foundation that provides scholarships for at-risk children in Nepal.

David S. Shepard, Ph.D., has been practicing as a counselor in the Los Angeles area for more than two decades, working with a full range of issues including adjustment problems, relationship issues, struggles with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. His particular specialty is in gender-sensitive couples therapy--incorporating scholarship on the socialization experiences of both men and women to ensure that both sexes are equally comfortable in and get maximum benefit from couples work. Prior to his counseling career, David worked as a screenwriter in the film and television industry, where he specialized in children's animation. He is also Associate Professor of Counseling at California State University, Fullerton, where he does research in counselor education, the relationship of counseling theory to clinical practice, gender issues in counseling, and the uses of film in teaching counseling.

Superb!

This is one of the best textbooks I've had the pleasure to use, and believe me, I've used a lot. It is clear and well-written, and in reading it you understand not just the information it presents but also why that information is important. Each chapter contains many anonymous comments called "Voices from the Field," written by practicing mental health counselors. These "voices" give a sometimes gritty but always authentic perspective that grounds and comforts the student. Here is one example:

Of all the theories I've used--and believe me, I've used a bunch--REBT is the one I found most useful
in my own life. I don't even practice it that much anymore with my clients, but I still use it every day
inside my own head. So often, I get down on myself because I feel like i'm failing my clients or not
doing as good a job as I should. Then I hear Ellis's voice in my head, confronting me about my
"shoulds" and absolute judgments. It really does work miracles.

Why don't I use it anymore with my clients? I don't know. I guess I just got bored with it after a
while. It's not that it stopped working; really, it's powerful stuff. It's just that I got tired disputing the
same old irrational beliefs over and over. I moved on to something new and more dynamic. But I
still use it sometimes with clients who really seem like good candidates for a more confrontational,
thinking approach.

When I read this account I could almost feel the counselor's weariness and self-doubt. Kottler should be commended for making a strong effort to portray the realities that students will face when they enter the "real world."

This is the second book I have read by Kottler. After a couple of years in a counseling MA program, you start to differentiate between poorly written texts and those that are helpful. Kottler is an engaging writer (no small feat for a textbook) and the "voices from the field" are found throughout the book. For a neophyte counselor, it's reassuring to hear from others in the field whose contributions reflect your own concerns. I took one star away because of the order of chapter topics, which I think could have been organized in a way that flowed better, but I would definitely recommend this book.

Fantastic book for anyone entering the field of counseling.

I was required to purchase the book for graduate school and was disappointed at first when I saw it was a textbook. However, the book is so interesting I just sat down and read it even before I started class. The author provides so much information about counseling and the personal stories from counselors in the field is a fantastic feature. All of the information in the book is exactly what you want to know as a new counselor. This is a textbook that I will definitely keep and recommend to others.
