it's the best book in my collction about windows security

The biggest advantage of this book - it's straight with no unnecessearly and unimportant info.
Just sit, do and analis your steps with author's help!
Mainly it reads easily, authors maneer of explanation most times very and very easy to understand.

Ironically, the main advanage of this book turns sometime it's main disadvantage:
IMO it lacks some details and deeper explanations on certain steps.
I had to spend much time on 4th chapter thou still some elements are unclear for me (especialy analisys on IDA for xrefs 433770 etc, - what elements points author on certain moves and decisions...)
But at the moment it's the best book in my collction about windows inner security.

small tip: if You manage to switch from recommended in book python v2.5 to latest 2.x branch (2.7), remember - file open and handlings are changed a bit, put the error message from console to google.
also, if you will to install fuzzers not from author's dropbox, be ready to take some time googling errors, and a small tip: use v2.7.8 of python as later versions has problems on building...

About the Author
Research and teaching interests in the economics of organizations, corporate governance and compensation policy, corporate finance, franchising and banking. From 1989 to 1991, he was chairman of the Finance Department and research director at he University of Utah's Garn Institute of Finance. Professor Brickley was chairman of he Committee on MBA Programs from 1994-1997.

Clifford W. Smith, Jr. University of Rochester

Research and teaching interests involve financial and managerial accounting. He and Professor Ross L. Watts received American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Awards in 1979 and 1980 for their joint papers. He received the American Accounting Association award for Seminal Contribution to Accounting Literature in 2004. He was the 1978 winner of the Competitive Manuscript Award, sponsored by the American Accounting Association, for his paper, "The Costs and Benefits of Cost Allocation." His research, which has come to be called "positive theories of accounting," seeks to understand the costs and benefits of various accounting procedures. He and Watts co-authored a book, Positive Accounting Theory, published by Prentice-Hall in 1986.

A little short-sighted

The book is fine for teaching adherence to the age-old market equilibrium supply and demand models, however it offers little further economic insight. In its praise of the free markets, it doesn't adequately address potential market failures or the assumptions on which its models are based. These would be worthwhile things to know for someone actually looking to become a managerial economist.

Awful! Disorganized and not helpful

I have read a lot of text books and this is the worst one i have ever read. The first chapter is the authors justifying the book and the practice. The information is completely disjointed and unorganized with questions and case studies in the book addressing concepts not yet presented. There are not nearly enough examples to help facilitate learning and understanding and it is so dry and monotous, it makes it very difficult to traverse.

I completely agree with the negative reviews. I too have read a lot of text books for my PhD and MBA and this is by far the worst one that I have encountered. For all intense and purposes it is not even an economics book. The author focuses on organization behavior more than economic theory. Only 7 of the 21 verbose and poorly written chapters are dedicated to economics. If you are starting out and needing to learn economics avoid this book if you can as you will find it difficult to follow and pointless at time. I needed to buy a secondary source of information and I picked Microeconomic 3rd ed Besanko et al just to understand the exact same examples detailed in both books, only Besanko was a pleasure to read, very clear and I learned a significant amount from. Brickley et al fails to explain the core concepts by either glossing over through over simplifying or by introducing concepts out of natural learning order, such as advanced concepts first and then going back and starting with simple supply and demand. Anyone who enjoyed this book in my opinion was not trying to learn the details of managerial economics and simply liked reading their gratuitous organization behavior examples.

A Yemen Reality provides a visual guide to the architectural context of life in southern Yemen. Over 650 colour photographs illustrate the range of architectural styles and building methods to be found along the coast and deep in to the heartlands, from Aden and Yafi in the west to Al Mahrah on the eastern border with Oman. The architecture of Yemen not only holds an important place in the history of architecture in Arabia, it also holds an important message for modern architecture worldwide. Unlike that of many of its more affluent neighbours, Yemeni architecture has not yet been seriously influenced by the development of modern materials and technology. For the most part the Yemeni master builders have kept alive the building methods and styles practised for many centuries, while adapting them to the current requirements of modern living. This ongoing proof of the practical value of traditional techniques and the aesthetic quality of design possible using indigenous materials and simple tools is clearly and beautifully demonstrated by this book. The traditional building methods used are initially dictated by the availability of local materials: stone, limestone used for waterproofing, shale and - most notably - mud formed into oven-baked or sun-dried bricks. With these materials the builders can construct skyscrapers of mud brick, minarets over a hundred feet/30 metres high, and palaces of outstanding elegance, all of which are set against the extraordinary landscapes of southern Yemen. But most significant of all are the outstanding skills of the master builders, passed down from generation to generation over many centuries, and still being practised with consummate virtuosity, asthese photographs show. Material for this book has been drawn from the author's firsthand experience and knowledge of the country and from her copious records, made during a number of visits over the last ten years. These records represent probably the most comprehensive body of knowledge on southern Yemeni architecture compiled to date.

About the Author
SALMA SAMAR DAMLUJI is an architect and specialist in Islamic and vernacular architecture of Arab countries. After studying at both the Architectural Association School of Architecture and the Royal College of Art, London, Dr Damluji also taught at the Royal College of Art as both a Research Fellow and then a Tutor, and later at the Architectural Association School of Architecture.

About the Author
Richards J. Heuer Jr. is best known for his book Psychology of Intelligence Analysis and for developing and then guiding automation of the Analysis of Competing Hypotheses (ACH) technique. Both are being used to teach and train intelligence analysts throughout the Intelligence Community and in a growing number of academic programs on intelligence or national security. Long retired from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Mr. Heuer has nevertheless been associated with the Intelligence Community in various roles for more than five decades and has written extensively on personnel security, counterintelligence, deception, and intelligence analysis. He has a B.A. in philosophy from Williams College and an M.A. in international relations from the University of Southern California, and has pursued other graduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Michigan. Randolph H. Pherson has spearheaded teaching and developing analytic techniques and critical thinking skills in the Intelligence Community. He is the author of the Handbook of Analytic Tools and Techniques and has coauthored Structured Analytic Techniques for Intelligence Analysis with Richards J. Heuer Jr., Critical Thinking for Strategic Intelligence with Katherine Hibbs Pherson, and the Analytic Writing Guide with Louis M. Kaiser. Throughout his twenty-eight-year career at the Central Intelligence Agency, where he last served as national intelligence officer for Latin America, he was an avid supporter of ways to instill more rigor in the analytic process. As president of Pherson Associates, LLC since 2003 and chief executive officer of Globalytica, LLC since 2009, he has been a vigorous proponent of a case-based approach to analytic instruction. Together, Beebe and Pherson have developed and tested new analytic tools and techniques, created interactive analytic tradecraft courses, and facilitated analytic projects. In their work as analytic coaches, facilitators, and instructors, they have found the case approach to be an invaluable teaching tool. Greate content - would have preferred a different presentation

I picked up a really old version of this book from a library many years back, and after some struggle googling it figured this was the one. I agree with other reviewers regarding the cover size and style - its not that great and is pretty oversized. However, I had very low expectation from the reviews so it isnt bugging me as much as it probably would have. I was really looking forward to the spiral binding so its easy to flip the pages over. Its a bit offset by the overwhelming colors in the book. I'm going to guess a majority of readers are going to like that, but I guess I just like them old school.
Content wise, its pretty similar to what I recollect from the ancient version, so I am happy with that (so the 5 stars).

The best book on the market related to analysis

As a professor of intelligence related courses, I have read as many books as I could to understand how the US does its work of intelligence. Two of the books I really enjoyed were "Without Cloak or Dagger: The Truth about the New Espionage" and "Dirty Tricks or Trump Cards" - both are dated, but still worth a read. Those books are great for a generalized understanding of intelligence. However, there has always been a void of books that discuss the intelligence mission from a day-to-day perspective. This book fulfills that void. It doesn't cover history, dwell on highly opinionated perspectives, or focus on the overall topic of intelligence. Instead, it focuses on tactics, techniques and procedures of the intelligence analyst. It is the ultimate reference guide for analysts and I highly recommend it.

About the Author
Paul Halmos received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, writing his dissertation under the direction of J. L. Doob. After a period at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), Princeton, where he was assistant to John von Neumann (1940-42), he returned briefly to Illinois. Since then he has held faculty positions at the following universities: Illinois, Syracuse, Chicago, Michigan (Ann Arbor), Hawaii, California (Santa Barbara), Indiana, and Santa Clara, where he became professor emeritus in 1995. He has held visiting appointments at Harvard, Tulane, Montevideo, Miami (Florida), California (Berkeley), Washington (Seattle), Edinburgh, Chiao Tung (Taiwan), and Western Australia, as well as several visits to the IAS. He has written over 100 research papers and many reviews in his principal research fields of operator theory, algebraic logic, and ergodic theory, with additional work in topological groups, probability, statistics, and Boolean algebras. Honors have included a Guggenheim Fellowship, membership in the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and honorary doctorates from St. Andrews, DePauw, Waterloo, and Kalamazoo. What I was

Halmos was an excellent expositor of mathematics, and this book is an excellent exposition about being a mathematician. At the end, Paul Halmos admits that he still wants to be a mathematician after decades of having been one; one interpretation of this is that one cannot ever stop trying to grow mathematically if one wants to call oneself a mathematician. As a mathematician myself (albeit at a much lower level than Halmos), this seems to me to be about right.
Halmos' life as a mathematician is fascinating. From his student days when he toyed with being a philosopher through his career as a top-level researcher to his later years when he concentrated more on being an editor, it is hard to put the book down.
There is very little in here about Halmos' personal life, which he makes clear in his introduction. For example, he had two wives, but he rarely mentions either of them, and it comes as a surprise when he casually mentions his wife with regard to one of several long trips that he made in his working life.
For me, the obvious comparison is to Hardy's ``A Mathematician's Apology", which I found patronizing and unreadable. (Hardy suggests that if you are not outstanding at something, you should not do it- although perhaps not intentional, this is a bit insulting to those mathematicians who are less accomplished than he is.)
Halmos' can be nasty and arrogant, but his humor makes up for that to a large extent.
An example of his arrogance is when he says that training new PhD's is something every mathematician has to do; which is clearly false, at least in the USA. He later mitigates this by pointing out that there are mathematics departments at (undergraduate) liberal arts schools with a better approach to being mathematicians than some of the research institutions, thereby implicitly acknowledging that being a mathematician does not necessarily imply training PhD's directly.
I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about being a mathematician, as well as to those who already are.

I don't think my words of praise would do justice to this wonderful book. Halmos has strong opinions almost about everything and the way he talks about his examples are very wise. You don't need to be a would-be mathematician to enjoy the book. If you have ever wondered or invested some time in the world of mathematics, science and academia, Halmos provides you a very good account. If you are more than interested in math or maybe thinking about pursuing a Ph.D. this book will be much more valuable for you.

There are so many parts to be quoted from the book but I prefer to start a Wikiquote page for Halmos and pour sentences there. Halmos may not be one of the greats (according to his words) such as Euler, Gauss, Riemann, etc. but he is probably the greatest writer of such books.

All along the book I had a feeling: it was more like a frank and witty dialogue between me and the great mathematician (and lecturer) who had been there and done that. I kept on asking questions and Halmos kept on giving answers.

Thank you Mr. Halmos, for having wanted to be a mathematician, having been one of the best and having written such a nice book on what it was all about.
