In many ways, The pH Miracle is reminiscent of an earlier generation of diet books. Much of the focus is on an intestinal cleansing program, followed by a diet that is 70 to 80 percent vegetables, coupled with a tremendous selection of supplements that authors Robert and Shelley Young recommend to everyone, no matter what their age, gender, or state of health.
The Youngs point their fingers at candida as a main culprit in the poor health of many people. Unfortunately, they back up their claims with only vague references, such as "a 1991 study" and "a leading cancer researcher." Many readers may wish for more specific evidence, but instead will have to make do with enthusiastic recommendations, alphabetized lists of vegetables, and pleasing chapters with vegetarian recipes that taste good no matter how you feel about the diet as a whole.
Sprinkled throughout the book are short testimonials of people who were able to reverse cancer, improve their digestion, and lower their cholesterol by following these recommendations, and it's hard to argue with the cholesterol-lowering results that a 70 percent vegetable diet will achieve. Still, the medical value of much else in the book remains hotly contested, and as always, it's wise to check with your doctor before starting off in search of miracles. --Jill Lightner

This book changed my life.

A friend told me about this book when I was in Peru and having trouble with my stomach. I was on 7 or 8 perscription drugs and about as many supplements. I read this book and set out to follow Dr. Young's instructions. After 1-2 months I was off all of my medications. I had an eye doctor appointment after 3 months and he could find no sign of the Glaucoma I had been on medication for for over 4 years. I have been on this way of life for over a year now and have dropped over 45 pounds and am now at 175 - 180lbs (down from 223lbs when I started). It was a struggle at first to find new foods to eat but the benefits kept me on track. I am vegan now. Though the book doesn't call for that I found it fits my new lifestyle better. Thank you Dr. Young!!

Great information to a point
By JUST ME!!
I was really excited about this book and was reading like a mad woman. UNTIL they hit the Idaho potatoe!! Well let me just say if they have no clue about the Idaho potatoe, it makes me question the rest of the book. Being a Southern Idaho girl and all, let me inform you that IDAHO POTATOES are NOT stored for years before they make it to your kitchen. They rot within 6-9 months no matter how our farmers store them. Our cellars(not SILOS) are empty by summer. So as for me, I truly question if these authors know what they are talking about if they do not do their research before writing. I realize potatoes may not be alkaline food but DO NOT state something that makes you look ignorant!!! I will continue to read and test the theory. Any diet high in veggies, water and complex carbs will be good for a body, but I also question the low protein. Low protein means no protein for your muscles which is not good for any one trying to raise metabolism and lose weight. Just my redneck opinion(while standing next to my silo full of rotted potatoes, chewing a grain stalk!)

50 pages into this book and so far, I love it! Love the nuts and bolts of the chemistry and biology that explains what happens with the different foods we put into the ecosystem that is our diagestive track. Love yhe many recipes offered too - very helpful in figuring out how to cleanse and detoxify, stay healthy, etc. Also helpful what to do with all those veggies, nuts, etc.
Have spent many years and read many books trying to get a handle on Cancer, Health & Nutrituon. This book answers many questions.
